A database is like a storage space where your website keeps important information such as user details, content, and settings — so it can load and function properly.
Cloudways currently provides two relational database management systems (RDBMS) — MySQL 8.4 and MariaDB 10.11 — for all customers across its cloud providers.
Both databases are fully supported on the Cloudways Platform, giving users the flexibility to choose their preferred engine when deploying or migrating applications. Whether you’re running an application built for MySQL or MariaDB, Cloudways ensures complete compatibility and smooth performance.
MySQL and MariaDB share a common foundation, and both are reliable, high-performance databases optimized for speed, scalability, and security. Cloudways allows you to manage your chosen database directly through the Platform — including importing/exporting data, optimizing performance, and setting up remote access as needed.
Cloudways supports both database options across all its major cloud providers — DigitalOcean, AWS, Google Cloud, Vultr, and Linode — allowing you to select the configuration that best fits your application’s requirements.
While Cloudways focuses mainly on relational databases like MySQL and MariaDB, advanced users can also integrate external NoSQL databases (such as MongoDB) with their applications hosted on Cloudways servers.
Note:
Deploying NoSQL databases directly on Cloudways infrastructure is not supported, but you can connect to external managed NoSQL services if required.
