Server Monitoring Alerts on the Cloudways Platform help you stay informed about the health and availability of your server and its core services.
These alerts notify you when the server or essential services experience an issue—and when they return to normal—so you are always aware of what is happening in the background.
Cloudways continuously monitors your server and key components of the web stack, such as the web server, database, and caching services.
This monitoring works automatically by default, with no setup required from your side.
In most cases, Cloudways also attempts to fix issues automatically before notifying you, helping reduce downtime and unnecessary alerts.
This article explains what Server Monitoring Alerts are, what they monitor, when alerts are triggered, and how notifications are sent.
It also clarifies important limitations—such as why individual websites are not monitored—so you know exactly what to expect and can avoid confusion.
By understanding Server Monitoring Alerts, you can respond faster to real issues, set the right expectations for server health monitoring, and use Cloudways more effectively for reliable hosting.
Table of Contents:
Scope of Server Monitoring Alerts
Server Monitoring Alerts focus on the overall health of the server and its core services. These alerts help you understand whether your server is running properly at the infrastructure level.
Cloudways monitors the server itself and essential services that keep it running, including:
Web servers (such as Nginx and Apache)
Caching services (such as Varnish, Memcached, and Redis)
Database services (such as MySQL)
Other core services (such as Elasticsearch and Supervisord)
Important:
Server Monitoring Alerts do not monitor individual websites or applications hosted on the server.
This means:
A website may be down due to code issues or configuration errors.
If the server and its core services are running normally, no alert will be triggered.
Server Monitoring Alerts are designed to track server health, not application-level issues. For monitoring individual websites, you may use third-party uptime monitoring tools.
How Do Server Monitoring Alerts Work?
Server Monitoring Alerts are enabled by default on all Cloudways servers. No manual setup is required.
Cloudways uses its own monitoring system to continuously check server connectivity and core services. Most services are also configured to recover automatically if an issue occurs.
Alerts are triggered only when an issue persists and cannot be resolved automatically.
When You Receive Alerts
You will receive an alert email in the following cases:
If the server cannot be contacted for more than 10 minutes
If any core service remains down for more than 10 minutes
When the server or service recovers and becomes available again
All alerts are sent to the registered email address of the account where the server is located.
This approach helps reduce unnecessary notifications and avoids false alarms.
Receiving Alerts via CloudwaysBot
You can also receive server monitoring alerts through CloudwaysBot.
CloudwaysBot allows you to:
Send alerts to multiple channels
Notify team members
Receive updates related to servers, applications, security, and performance
Supported notification channels include email, Slack, API integrations, and more.
